Ingredients

  • Dough
  • 4 ½ cups white flour or bread dough
  • 1/8 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1cup scalded milk
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • 2 eggs
  • Mixture
  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion diced fine
  • Juice of one half to one lemon (to taste)
  • 2 tbsp Syrian mix or allspice (use 1 tbsp Syrian mix and taste)
  • If using allspice ½ -1 tsp black pepper. This is not needed if Syrian mix is used.
  • 2 tbsp salt (prob should be 2 tsp)

Directions

Dough:

  1. Put warm milk in bowl. Melt butter and add to milk. Mix warm water with yeast and a pinch of the sugar in a cup to proof yeast. When cool enough so that not more than warm, add flour, remaining sugar, eggs and salt. Mix forming soft dough. Need until smooth, adding more water or flour as needed to make smooth and soft. Let rise at least one hour with cover or saran wrap on top of bowl.

Meat:

  1. Brown meat, onion and spices. Then drain. Add lemon to taste. Cool.

Final:

  1. When dough has risen, make small balls. Let rise for ½ hour. Then roll into round circles. Fill with meat mixture. Pinch sides and top together to form a triangle.
  2. Bake at 450 degrees until browned.
