Beat shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses. Sift together dry ingredients and add to sugar mixture. Roll into balls no larger than walnuts. Place on greased cookie sheet 2" apart.
Bake for 10-12 minutes at 325*.
Let cool on wire rack. When cool place in large ziplock bag containing confectioner's sugar or granular sugar ( depends on your audiences preference) shake cookies until covered with sugar. Give a gentle tap to remove excess. Viola! And enjoy.
