Vanilla-Rose Water Cupcakes

Ingredients

  • FOR VANILLA CAKE
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 vanilla bean, seeded and hull discarded
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons milk
  • FOR ROSE WATER ICING
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon rose water
  • FOR CANDIED ROSE PETALS
  • 15 blemish-free organic rose petals
  • 1 tablespoon meringue powder
  • ½ tablespoon warm water
  • ½ cup extra-fine granulated sugar
  • Artists’ brush
  • Wire rack for drying
