Butterscotch Brownies


  • 1 cup shortening, melted
  • 3 cups brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons hot water
  • 3 tsp. Vanilla
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 3 cups flour
  • 3/8 tsp. Baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Salt


To melted shortening add brown sugar, hot water, vanilla, and eggs. In a separate bowl sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Combine dry ingredients with the first mixture and add 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
