Swiss Steak


  • 2 pounds round steak
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 (4 oz) cans mushrooms (drained) optional
  • 6 white onions
  • 6 medium potatoes, peeled and halved – leave whole if they are small
  • 6 whole carrots (use big ones)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper


Heat 1 TBSP coconut oil with saute function. Cut meat up into 2” squares, brown in oil.
Remove meat, add broth and deglaze. Add meat, set HP for 8 minutes, NPR.

When done, add remaining ingredients. Set HP for another 8 minutes, NPR.

Remove everything from the pot and use the liquid to make gravy.
