Apple Chutney

Ingredients

  • 5 big apples
  • 1-2 onions
  • 2-4 knob of garlic
  • 1 1/2 deciliter white vinegar
  • 125 gram brown sugar or cane sugar
  • A handfull of raisins
  • Masala:
  • 1 tbsp whole mustard seed (yellow or brown)
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder or 1/2 tbsp finely chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/4 - 1/2 tsp chili powder or flakes
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Directions

  1. Peel the apples and remove the inner part and all seeds
  2. Chop apples in cubes (1-2 cms)
  3. Cook the apple cubes soft with sugar and vinegar (10 minutes)
  4. Grate the onions and garlic
  5. Mix masala with salt
  6. Add the grated onions, garlic, masala/salt and raisins to the pot with the cooked apple cubes
  7. Let all simmer without a lid 15 minutes.
  8. Pour the hot content on scolded glasses (4 pieces) with a 'click'-lid.
  9. Serve it together with Indian dishes or meat or vegetable dishes.
  10. Unopened it can keep several weeks in a fridge
