Chicken Katsu with Tonkatsu Sauce

Ingredients

  • 4 breast half, bone and skin removed (blank)s skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - pounded to 1/2 inch thickness
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 cup oil for frying, or as needed
  • TONKATSU SAUCE:
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
