Gourmet Meat Loaf

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lb. ground beef
  • ¾ cup uncooked regular oats
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2/3 C milk
  • Mushroom filling:
  • 1 C sliced mushrooms
  • ½ C chopped onion
  • 2 Tbs. butter or marg.
  • 1/3 C sour cream

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients except mushroom filling. Place half of meat mixture in a lightly greased 10x6x2 in. baking dish; form into loaf shape.
  2. Make a shallow well lengthwise in meat. Spoon mushroom filling into well. Spoon remaining meat mixture over filling, covering all of filling and shape into loaf. Bake at 350 degrees about 1 hour. Stand 5 minutes before cutting.
  3. • This could be a good meat loaf with tomatoes and tomato sauce added, admitting mushroom filling.
