Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients

  • 2½ cups (10 ounces) cake flour
  • 1½ cups (10.5 ounces) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1½ cups vegetable oil (see note)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white distilled vinegar
  • For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
  • 16 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Crushed pecans, for garnish
