Creole Steaks

Ingredients

  • 1 to 1-1/2 lbs. ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 to 1 cup flour
  • Salt and pepper
  • (4) 8 oz. cans tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 ribs celery, chopped fine
  • 1 large onion, chopped fine
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large bell pepper, chopped fine
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder

Directions

  1. Mix hamburger with egg, flour, salt and pepper.
  2. Note: If you’re using 1 pound of hamburger, you only need 1/2 cup of flour. If you’re using more hamburger, you’ll need to increase your flour.
  3. Mix with hands to blend thoroughly. Roll out meat mixture on a lightly floured board until about half an inch thick. Cut into strips about 3 x 5“. Brown meat in a lightly grease skillet until brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Combine remaining sauce ingredients in a large pot. Bring to a boil. Drop steaks into boiling sauce a few at a time like dumplings. Lower heat and simmer for about 30 minutes. Or cook in a 325° oven for about 30 minutes.
  5. Serve with rice or noodles.
