1. In a large bowl, combine shortening, two cups of sugar, and molasses, until cohesive. Beat eggs in a separate bowl and add to your mixture.
2. Sift your flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger together into a bowl, and slowly add to your batter until it forms a thick dough ball.
3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Pour the rest of your sugar into a small bowl. Roll dough into small balls, and coat in sugar. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
4. While cookies are baking, put a wire rack out on your counter. When the cookies are done, remove from oven, and snap onto stovetop 3 to 4 times until thick cracks appear all across your cookies, and flatten them. Immediately use a spatula to lift cookies onto your wire rack, and let cool.
