Ingredients

  • *1 lb (450 g) ground beef or turkey
  • * 1 medium onion, diced
  • * 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • * 1 bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • * 1 can (15 oz / 425 g) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • * 1 can (15 oz / 425 g) diced tomatoes
  • * 1 can (8 oz / 225 g) tomato sauce
  • * 2 tbsp chili powder
  • * 1 tsp ground cumin
  • * 1 tsp paprika
  • * ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • * ¼ tsp black pepper
  • * 1 cup water or beef broth

Directions

  1. In a large pot, cook the ground meat over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Cook for 3–5 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Add the beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and water/broth. Stir well.
  5. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as desired.
