Moussaka

Ingredients

  • 400g thinly sliced potatoes, lengthwise
  • 2T olive oil
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 120g button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 500g beef mince
  • 400g tin chopped tomatoes
  • 1T cinnamon (maybe less)
  • 2t allspice powder
  • 1T tomato paste
  • Sauce
  • 50g butter
  • 50g flour
  • 400mL milk
  • Pinch nutmeg

Directions

  1. Oven 200° or 180° FF
  2. Blanch the potatoes in boiling water for 2 min, drain.
  3. Heat the oil and sauté onions, mushrooms and garlic. Add the beef and brown.
  4. Add tomatoes, cinnamon, allspice and paste. Simmer 10 minutes
  5. Make sauce - melt butter, add flour. Slowly add the milk & nutmeg, whisking. Cook until sauce thickens.
  6. 25 x 16cm lasagne dish. Layer half the potatoes, half the beef and half the sauce. Repeat. Sprinkle with black pepper.
  7. Cook for 30min.
