  • Toor dal (Pigeon peas or arhar dal) – ½ cup
  • Peanuts – 1 tablespoon
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Whole wheat flour (Chapati atta) - ½ cup
  • Besan (Gram flour) - 1 tablespoon, optional
  • Turmeric powder - ¼ teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - ½ teaspoon
  • Asafetida - a pinch
  • Carom seeds (Ajwain) - ⅛ teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - ⅓ cup
  • Water – 3 ½ cups
  • Red chili powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon
  • Tomato – ¼ cup, chopped
  • Green chili – 1, slit
  • Ginger paste or freshly grated – ½ teaspoon
  • Jaggery – 1 tablespoon
  • Salt – to taste
  • Lemon juice – 1 tablespoon
  • Cilantro or coriander leaves – few sprigs, finely chopped
  • Oil – 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds – ¼ teaspoon
  • Fenugreek seeds (Methi dana) – 6-7
  • Clove – 1
  • Cinnamon stick – ¼ inch piece
  • Bay leaf – 1
  • Dried red chili – 1, broken into two pieces
  • Curry leaves – 5-6
  • Asafetida (Hing) – very small pinch
